AK's Power Plays: 2024 PGA Championship

The Approach to finding the power plays for the 2024 PGA Championship

What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you a special edition of AK's Power Plays: The Plays You Need to Smash Your GPP's.

Rory McIlroy was a man among boys at Quail Hollow, and rolls into the PGA Championship hotter than ever. If it wasn't for Scottie Scheffler you could argue Rory is the hottest player on planet earth.

Our second major of the season is upon us as the world's best descend on Louisville, Kentucky and Valhalla Golf Club.

Valhalla G.C., a daunting Par 71 at roughly 7,600 yards will be a true test of golf. A Jack Nicklaus designed golf course, Valhalla has seen some changes since Rory McIlroy conquered in 2014. New tee boxes and a switch to Zoysia grass await the players in what is sure to be a great major championship.

Weather should play a huge factor this week as rain is scheduled to hit the greater Louisville area. Should this rain come to fruition, it will make Valhalla play even longer than the 7,600 yards on the card. This will put an emphasis on bombers and driving distance with a key range of approach over 200 yards. Winning scores this week should hover between -10 to -12 in soft conditions.

As we take the field of battle at Valhalla, let us take a look at who will will help us smash our GPP's and guide our path to all the money! Bring on the Power Plays!

Ludvig Aberg ($10,500)

Our first Power Play of the week is someone who has an upside higher than almost everyone in the field. Ludvig Aberg, the young phenom is Power Play number one this week at a modest $10,500 on DraftKings.

Why This Power Play Works:

Ludvig Aberg comes into Valhalla seemingly the forgotten man in the mid/upper 10K range. The Withdraw from Wells Fargo due to a knee injury is something to monitor, but from all accounts it was a mere precaution.

Statistically, Aberg sets up very well for Valhalla. Ranking 4th in Strokes Gained Off The Tee, Aberg should also be able use his 16th ranked ball speed to his advantage.

Ludvig has also proven himself to excel with his long iron play, which will be crucial this week. In the key stat range of Approach over 200 yards, Aberg ranks a very silky 5th.

Amazingly, this ranks significantly better than both Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. Both of these favorites barely crack the top 25 in the Approaches over 200 yards category.

Greens will be missed this week, and Ludvig has proven himself to be a wizard getting up and down. Ranking 13th in scrambling and 9th in bogey avoidance, Ludvig has a formula in place that can have him hoisting the Wannamaker Trophy come Sunday night.

Vincent Norrman ($5,300)

Our second Power Play of the week comes from deep in the 5k range. Vincent Norrman, who should carry barely 1% ownership this week makes for an interesting play in your DraftKings lineups.

Why The Power Play Works:

You may be asking yourself, "AK why are we going this low down the board?" The reason being is that Vincent opens up multiple 10K stacking options. In a field where studs should reign supreme, these salary saving plays will be vital.

When you look at the stats, Norrman really jumps off the page in the Bet the Number Model.

In the key stat range of Approach over 200 yards, Norrman ranks 12th, better than Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. Norrman is also a Greens in Regulation machine, ranking 8th in the field.

Additionally, Norrman checks the boxes for driving distance and ball speed. With rankings of 7th and 11th respectively, Vince can certainly compete with the long drivers and have every chance to help our lineups this week.

That's it folks for this special edition of the Power Plays! We will be returning with another edition in the near future!
