The Power Fade: 2024 The Sentry

The Approach to fading big names for the 2024 The Sentry

What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you the Season Premiere of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!

After what seemed like an eternity, the PGA TOUR is back this week and on the island of Maui. A 59 man field awaits us this week, featuring no cut in this Signature event.

The Plantation Course at Kapalua plays as the rare Par 73. At nearly 7,600 yards, The Plantation Course features wide fairways that give even the most wild players off the tee a chance to hit from the short grass. Both bombers and ball strikers have faired well in this birdie-fest event. Getting in the winner's circle this week will require a score hovering in the -26 to -30 range.

For the first time in 2024, let's dive in to the Power Fades for The Sentry!

Jordan Spieth ($8,800)

Our first Power Fade of the season is a former winner of The Sentry. Jordan Spieth kicks us off at $8,800 on DraftKings.

Why The Fade Works:

From a talent and course history standpoint, fading Spieth seems like a dangerous proposition. The stats however, tell a different tale. Spieth ranks near dead last in the field for Opportunities Gained (50th), Birdies (54th), and Strokes Gained Par 4 (45th).

When it comes to Jordan Spieth, we have to remember that the TV cameras love him. If you put these stats on another player, would you play them? Spieth moves the needle unquestionably, but we are playing DraftKings to win and I am just not confident he will be in the optimal lineup.

Additionally, when we have a no-cut, 59 man field you just simply cannot play everyone. Let's take a look at who Jordan is surrounded by. For $100 cheaper we can play Ludvig Aberg, who has higher upside (At higher ownership mind you). Just because Aberg will be chalk isn't a deterrent to take the ownership and fade the discount on Spieth. Full fade Jordan this week and move toward birdie makers with higher upside.

Tony Finau ($8,400)

Making his return to the Power Fade this week is our first ever Power Fade. Tony Finau is our second Power Fade this week at $8,400. While Finau certainly seems underpriced, the stats yet again tell a tale of why we should fade.

Why The Fade Works:

When looking at the stats for Tony Finau, one would think he would pop off the charts. Incredibly Finau does not.

The first surprising stat is that Finau ranks 57th in Birdies. Finau has always seemed to be a birdie machine, and when his game is on this holds true. If the Finau who has been 57th in birdies shows up this week, then his upside is barely Top-15 in the field. In a no-cut event we need all six of our players in the Top-15 if not inside the Top-10.

Additionally, Finau's putter has been ice cold. Ranking dead last (59th) in this field leaves quite the impression this week. With huge greens that everyone in the field will be hitting at a high rate, the flat stick will be more important than ever. Per the stats, it seems that Finau just won't make enough putts to crack the optimal lineup.

That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade. We will be returning to you next week for the Sony Open in Hawaii.
