The Power Fade: 2024 THE PLAYERS Championship

The Approach to fading big names for the 2024 PLAYERS Championship

What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!

Scottie Scheffler found his putter over the weekend and cruised his way to victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. We now take a short drive from Orlando to Ponte Vedra and famed TPC Sawgrass.

TPC Sawgrass plays as a Par 72, tipping out at roughly 7,300 yards. With reachable Par 5's and difficult Par 3's, we should see some good scoring should the weather hold steady.

As we head to largest purse of the season, let's take a look at who our Power Fades will be for The PLAYERS Championship!

Justin Thomas ($10,600)

Our first Power Fade of the week is someone many thought would be a winner at TPC Sawgrass this week. Even thou his form has returned in some capacity, Justin Thomas kicks off our Power Fades this week at $10,600 on DraftKings.

Why The Fade Works:

While JT is a former winner here, and has played well this season, he still has glaring holes statistically that warrant a fade.

As we enter play at TPC Sawgrass, Thomas ranks 98th in Good Drives Gained and 129th in Fairways gained. I understand that at TPC Sawgrass you don't always have to be in the fairway to score, but this number is alarming.

Justin Thomas loves to hit the foul ball off the tee, this is well documented. With that comes immense pressure for scrambling and putting. Thomas isn't exactly an all-star in these categories either.

With rankings of 54th in Scrambling and 69th SG Putting, we have potential that JT can easily come up on the wrong side of variance.

Speaking of variance, The Players Championship has some of the highest variance we will see all year. One or two bad swings are the difference between making and missing the cut. With this level of variance in mind, pivoting down the board to lesser owned options would be the play this week.

Corey Connors ($8,300)

Our second Power Fade of the week is a friend from North of the Border. Corey Connors is our second Power Fade of the week at $8,300

Why The Fade Works:

Connors will be one who rates out very well in the models this week. With this should lead to some chalk ownership in the 8k range on DraftKings. While Connors irons are lovely to watch, we all know his putter can let him down at any time.

Ranking 134th in this field SG Putting, coupled with a Scrambling rating of 112th and we have the potential for a great chalk fade. Connors also ranks 52nd in Bogey Avoidance this week. While bogey's will happen at TPC Sawgrass, you can also get on the bogey train quickly if you are not on your game.

With such high variance this week, fading any and all chalk isn't a bad strategy, especially in the 8k range where people will look to go after starting their lineups with Scottie Scheffler.

That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will be returning to you next week as we head to the Snake Pit of Copperhead Resort and The Valspar!
