Outright Bets for The World Wide Technology Championship 2023

The Betting Approach for The World Wide Technology Championship 2023

We get Tiger Woods' first ever designed course debuting on the PGA TOUR as the boys head to Los Cabos, MEX to tackle El Cardonal at Diamante. And...the course looks like it could be a complete dud. It's a par 72 playing every bit of 7,400 yards with tip to tip paspalum grass. The fairways are 60 yards wide. SIXTY! That's twice the PGA TOUR average. The green surfaces average 8,300 square feet! This place was built for 15 handicaps wearing golf sandals with spikes and bucket hats.

The only real defense to most "resort" coastal courses would be wind. However, the only thing more absent than the wind this week will be the general public's interest in this golf tournament. However...let's get fired up! It's something new. The boys will all be sending driver to the moon. And an outright hit pays the same no matter the time of year.

With no weather wave advantage in the scenario, I'm firing now! I want the best closing line value possible (especially given the likelihood of Ludvig winning this damn thing at 9/1. We've had 4 Fall events, and 3 of them won by guys at less than 20/1...thereby crippling my BBBC chances.

More Intel on the course

We've got plenty of caddie friends on site this week to help us understand how this golf course is playing. I'll also be paying close attention to the player quotes throughout the week and dropping them in the Nut Hut Discord. Plus, we've got our gamblin PGA TOUR caddie contributing every week in the Nut Hut , in "Dynamite" Dean Emerson. Dynamite will be in the Nut Hut weekly sharing insights on the courses, how they're playing and what he's hearing from ground zero that week.

If you're in the Nut Hut and you've not scrolled the #Caddie-Info channel this week...you're missing a TON of information. The chat tonight will cover everything from strategy in GPPs, cash games, betting, weather and tee time wave advantages, and of course picks & fades. If you'd like more detail on the weather and our thoughts, then check the Nut Hut and sign up for the Chalk Bomb email going out here in a few hours.

This is NOT Your Mama's Betting Article

I bet on golf for fun. You should too. Life is too short to bet favorites! Therefore, I don't get the betting erection I crave betting guys at 14/1 or 9/1. I realize that may be the sharper way to do things, but F that. I've felt the rush of having a big triple-digit winning golf bet hit...and Daddy likes!

Throughout the season, I'm going to show you my pre-tournament bets, including what I'm risking, odds, and some brief logic behind the pick. I'm actually betting on these guys. I'm taking $50 a week at $10 per unit to show you how I allot my dollars. Follow along, bet with me if you like, or completely fade everyone on this betting card. Up to you. I finished the 2019-2020 PGA Tour season up 10 units over 30 weeks, the 2020-2021 season up 41 units, the 2021-2022 season up 26 units and the 2022-2023 season down 5 units strictly betting the long shot outrights (nothing shorter than 25/1).

So for the last 4 PGA TOUR seasons, this article is up 72 units. However, the landscape of the PGA TOUR has changed, and the winners have been shorter over the last 2 years. For that reason, I've decided to start the 2024 season at a 20/1 minimum instead of 25/1.

Long Shot Outright Bets for The World Wide Technology Championship 2023

I settled on a cacophony (get it...) of bombers and Chad Ramey for the card. I'm spending 5 units to win between 30-33 with a win. Given how "sendy" this place sets up to be, I just think having guys that can unleash off the tee will be critical with a winning score in the mid to upper 20s. I'm guessing these receptive paspalum greens will make for welcome flag hunting targets for most of the field, so hitting it close and converting is all this boils down to.

It's hard to argue with the form this Fall from Hossler, List, Thompson, Tarren, and EVR. They've all been incredibly consistent with top of the leaderboard finishes among them.

Champ, Ramey, and Yuan have all had pops, but not quite the same consistency. Champs a 3x PGA TOUR winner with top 10s both times playing at Vidanta in Mexico (very similar setup to this course). Ramey's a PGA TOUR winner at another resort course, paspalum, birdie fest at Corales Puntacana. He's added some distance, and the putter can always get hot. Yuan's a bomber that just missed his first PGA TOUR win at the Sanderson, were it not for completely defecating himself on Sunday. He's a multiple winner on the KFT and had two top 3 finishes in Panama.

If anyone takes down Ludvig this week...it's gotta be one of these long hitting studs ready to rack up the birdies and eagles in Los Cabos!
