Sentry Tournament of Champions

Sentry ToC 2021 | PGA Tour

Golf is back! Feels like a year has gone by since the boys tee’d up. It’s not a full field but the Sentry Tournament of Champions always creates lots of drama and the Plantation course at Kapalua is a beauty. Let’s get you set to see some green screens on DraftKings this weekend.

What's up golf addicts! AC here, checking in week to week to provide a quick recap of the latest Tour Junkies podcast. I won't cover all of the picks and insight (you need to listen to the show) but I'll give you a few.

The cream of the crop from 2020 head to Hawaii this week as all the winners from the 2019-20 PGA Tour season get a coveted invite for some free money. To make things even more juicy, anyone who qualified for the Tour Championship (Top 30 Fedex Cup) were awarded an invite as well. For a guy like Mackenzie Hughes, his putt on 18 in the final round of the BMW Championship is proving to be seriously profitable.

Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, John Rahm, and Bryson Dechambeau headline the field of 42 with debutants Viktor Hovland, Scottie Scheffler, Sungjae Im, Abe Ancer, Jason Kokrak, Carlos Ortiz, and Richie Werenski eager for their first try.

The Plantation Course at Kapalua Course Preview

Located in Lahaina, Hawaii, Kapalua resort boasts two of the most sought after courses in the world. One of which, the Ben Crenshaw designed Plantation course, golf fans will get to see this weekend. Though it sits at elevation, the course is long, measuring just under 7,600 yards as a Par 73.

Bermudagrass tee to green and not a flat lie to be found awaiting the field. Huge greens, huge fairways, huge slopes and a shit load of bunkers will try to defend the course but like all coastal courses, the wind will play a big factor as well. At the moment, the wind looks tame for the majority of the event but it will show its teeth during the first round.

Tons of course history available so finding some key stats and course horses is pretty easy. Scoring relative to par has been pretty easy with scores between -14 and -30 taking it down. No cut to deal with either will give your players four rounds. Hitting fairways is easy, the rough is short, and the greens are velcro (slow!).

Off the tee and approach will be key this week. Look for the guys who can bomb it and are silky with a wedge in their hands. I like Fantasy National’s Opps Gained stat, driving distance, ball striking, and putting this week. Accuracy will not be necessary, nor will scrambling play a big part.
