AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am 2021 | PGA Tour

Bruce Cupcake! BK! What a win for Brooks Koepka last week at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, his second WMPO title. The books dare to hang him out there at big odds. The disrespect. This week we move back to the west coast as the PGA Tour heads to Pebble Beach for the 2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Let’s get you set to see some green screens on DraftKings this weekend.

What's up golf addicts! AC here, checking in week to week to provide a quick recap of the latest Tour Junkies podcast. I won't cover all of the picks and insight (you need to listen to the show) but I'll give you a few.

Hopefully you were in on the community haul last weekend. Brooks took down the People’s Open, for the people. Every once in a while the books just fall asleep and we get an alpha stud at a ridiculous price. They did it to Bryson and we stung em at 80-1. Last week they hung BK out there for 55-1 and we got em. We got em good.

We will try to do it again this week but the field is much less attractive. At first glance, the field was dull, further deflated after world #1, Dustin Johnson, withdrew. I’m pretty surprised Sergio Garcia hasn’t made a last minute effort to get in. Alas, “Canadian!” Nick Taylor, is back to defend his 2020 title. Patrick Cantley, Daniel Berger, Paul Casey, Will Zalatoris, Rickie Fowler, James Hahn, and last week’s top story, Jordan Speef, are among the talent teeing it up this week.

Pebble Beach Course Preview

Following the setup for The American Express a few weeks ago, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro- Am crew has decided to ditch the Ams and ditch a course too. Players will rotate between Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill for the first two rounds before making the cut after 36 holes, instead of the traditional 54, and playing the weekend on Pebble. The easier Monterey Peninsula course getting the axe.

Pebble Beach GL plays as a par 72 at just over 7,000 yards. The players will face a coastal course with some expected windy and wet conditions over the final three rounds. The greens and fairways are Poa annua with short Ryegrass rough. The field is set at 156 players with the top 65 and ties make the weekend.

Course history is plentiful this week but this event will be quite different than years past. The Ams are out which means rounds will be played much faster. There will be no fans and the course rotation will be much different. Keep in mind though that these are public courses and scoring is generally average to easy.

Accuracy off the tee isn’t as important this week due to the nature of the course. A lot of tee shots will be clubbed down for position and if a fairway is missed, the rough can be easily navigated. Most important this week will be the second shot into the green. Ball strikers paradise and if they can putt for one weekend, they can contend for the title. With tiny greens, greens in regulation gained and strokes gained around the green will be key. Par 5 scoring, opportunities gained, and wedge proximity are also stats that I like this week.
