The Power Fade: 2025 US Open
The Approach for Key fades at the 2025 US Open
Like a Phoenix from the ashes, We are the nation... The TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you a returning edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!
This week we head to beautiful Oakmont, PA for our national open. Oakmont CC, a Par 70 that plays 7,342 yards is back and better than ever.
Carnage will be abound this week, and many players will fall victim to the hellish rough. The church pew bunkers are no heaven either, as many will be saying their prayers to escape in one shot.
While bombers in theory have an advantage, accuracy and precision will rule the day. Many players will struggle to break par this week. I would be shocked if more than a dozen players finish this week under par. Expect a winning score to hover around -5.
As the PF makes its triumphant return, let's take a look at whose prayers will not be answered at Oakmont. Bring on the Power Fades!
Bryson DeChambeau ($11,000)
The last time we saw the PF, we had a controversial chalk fade, which didn't work out. Rory got us at Augusta. Oakmont I believe will be a different story. I am taking a stand with our first fade. Bryson DeChambeau, who will be a popular pick is our first Power Fade at $11,000 even on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
Let's address the obvious first. This fade could backfire horribly. Bryson when his A game shows up can take down any course.
However, there are some factors about Oakmont that make fading Bryson not a crazy idea.
When it comes to the stats, Bryson for all his power does have the big number lurking. Ranking 62nd in Bogey Avoidance is troubling if Bryson isn't on his game. A few big numbers can certainly take Bryson out of contention very quickly.
Bryson's driving accuracy on a course that punishes if you are offline is concerning. B.A.D ranks 76th in Driving Accuracy, which creates some lingering thoughts of how many times will Bryson get away with being off the fairway.
Greens in Regulation will be a key statistic this week, and shockingly Bryson hasn't had the most success in this department. The 2 time U.S. Open Champion ranks 75th in GIR for this field.
One final takeaway for the Bryson fade is that DraftKings is a salary based game. If you are like me and believe Scottie Scheffler is winning the U.S. Open, you simply cannot play Bryson.
This week is all about taking strategic and calculated chances. Fading the defending champion is one I will be making across the board.
Collin Morikawa ($9,800)
Our second Power Fade for the U.S. Open is a man we are not used to seeing below $10,000 on DraftKings. Collin Morikawa makes his PF debut this week at $9,800.
Why The Fade Works:
Oakmont CC seems like a track that would suit Collin very well. With accuracy and precision a key to success this week, one might think it's crazy to fade Morikawa.
When it comes to the stats, Collin has some struggles that lend itself to considering the fade. Morikawa ranks 63rd in Greens in Regulation. Furthermore, Collin has been really struggling around the greens. Ranking 107th in Scrambling is concerning. It does not get much better for the two time major champion with Strokes Gained Around the Green, when Collin ranks 102nd.Â
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade!
