The Power Fade: 2025 Rocket Classic
The Approach for Key fades at the 2025 Rocket Classic
We are the Nation.. The TJ Nation!
Welcome again folks to another edition of The Power Fade: The Fades You Need to Win All the Cheese In Your GPP's!
After Captain Keegan ripped out Tommy Fleetwood's heart on the 72nd hole, we get a break from the world's best as the PGA TOUR wheels into the Motor City.
Detroit Golf Club, a Donald Ross design Par 72, 7400 yards plays host once again to the Rocket Classic. A birdie fest in every sense of the word, DGC will allow for players to bomb the ball all over the lot with very little penalty.
Historically, we have seen a winning score reach -20. This week should be no different as record breaking heat in the Metro Detroit Area will have the golf ball flying. Birdie Percentage, Par 5 Scoring and SG Putting will be huge stats to target this week.
With yours truly having his boots on the ground Wednesday for the Pro-Am, let us take a look at who will breakdown in the Motor City! Bring on the Power Fades for the Rocket Classic!
Keegan Bradley ($10,400)
We kick off the PF this week coming hot out of the gate. While we won in dramatic fashion at TPC River Highlands, Captain Keegan still makes his season debut in the Power Fade.
Seeing Keegan at 10.4K on DraftKings, even in this field is a little strange. Clearly the market is inflated post win. However, there are other statistical factors that lend itself to fading our Ryder Cup Captain.
Breaking down the stats, we find that Keegan has not fared the best in Par 5 Scoring (107th)Â or Greens/Fringe in Regulation (78th). I know he just got the job done in a birdie fest, albeit with a little help from ol' Tommy Lad but Bradley and birdie-fests are not exactly synonyomous once you leave the northeast.
Approach play from the key range 120-175 yards hasn't been a strength for Keegan either. Ranking 67th in this field gives one pause if paying 10.4K for Bradley is even worth it.
Detroit Golf Club for all its birdie-fest variance does have some course history that repeats itself over time (See Cam Davis winning twice here). Keegan's course history has not been stellar at DGC, with only one top 15 finish. I think we can take a pass on Captain Keegs and start down the board this week.
Hideki Matsuyama ($9,600)
Our second Power Fade of the week is a man who has done nothing all season since a dominating win at The Sentry. Hideki Matsuyama makes an appearance in the PF for The Rocket Classic at $9,600 on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
While the stats on Hideki have been gross, I do believe he will still get ownership. People will always play the upside of Hideki, but at a certain point you have to wonder if this isn't a lost season.
Statistically, Hideki is brutal from the key stat ranges. Ranking 110th in Birdie Average and 113th in Birdie or Better percentage is hardly encouraging. Top that off with ranking 125th in Par 5 birdies and we need to take a pass on the World's Number 11 ranked player.
Furthermore, when it comes to course history, Hideki has not failed to rev his engine in the Motor City. Hideki has not recorded a Top 10 in these weak fields and includes a WD and an MC.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will return to you next week from the Quad Cities for The John Deere Classic!Â
