The Power Fade: 2024 olympics
The Approach to fading big names for the 2024 Olympics
What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!
The PGA TOUR takes a back seat this week as the world descends on Paris for the Olympics. Le Golf National, home of the 2018 Ryder Cup that saw the U.S butchered by the Euros plays host to this 60 man no cut field.
Le Golf National plays as a Par 71, tipping out around 7,200 yards. While the rough was very gnarly for the Ryder Cup in 2018, the course will play more like the French Open.
Off the Tee prowess will be key this week to earn the gold medal. Even with the graduated levels of rough, staying in the fairway will be very important.
The Power Fade had another nice showing last week, as Nick Dunlap made it 3 straight weeks and 5 of 6 featuring a Missed Cut. Let's take a look at who will not be making the podium in Paris. Bring on the Power Fade!
Ludvig Aberg ($10,300)
Our first Power Fade of the week is a man who may have a few gold medals in his trophy case when his career is over.
While he is uber talented, and has the potential to dominate any field, Ludvig Aberg is our first Power Fade of the week at $10,300.
Why The Fade Works:
The last time we saw Aberg, he was horrible at the Open Championship. Now I get it, he had the wrong side of the draw, ect.
However, the stats do point us to where Aberg could be a strong fade. Ludvig comes into the week ranking a measly 35th in SG Approach from the key range of 125-175 yards. Remember folks, this is a 60 man field; meaning this is below the middle of the pack.
Ludvig has also struggled on the Par 3's. Ranking 26th in the field for Par 3 scoring is cause for concern, as we have been on a run of euro courses with tough Par 3's.
Additionally, scrambling has not been a friend to the Swedish Superman. Ludvig comes into the week ranked 29th. With his pension for missing greens of late, this is a worrying trend.
With the no cut format, Ludvig's up and down play could be a detriment to his chances to make the podium. Le Golf National is not the course to be good one day, then struggle the next. While 65's are out there, so are 78's and Ludvig certainly has the blow up potential to shoot himself out of this tournament.
Sepp Straka ($8,500)
Our second Power Fade of the week is someone the sharps may be on this week, but the stats say a fade is the play. Sepp Straka comes to us as our second Power Fade at $8,500.
Why The Fade Works:
Sepp certainly fits the mold of someone who could have success at Le Golf National. Statistically however this is not the case.
Straka comes into the Olympics ranked 33rd in Strokes Gained Approach from 125-175 yards. These struggles become compounded with ranking 31st SG Around the Green.
While Straka actually ranks 1st in hit fairway percentage, he has been getting statistically worse SG Tee to Green in his last 3 measured events. Fade Straka and pivot up the board to Jason Day and be on your way to the bank.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will return to you next week, for the PGA TOUR Regular Season finale. We descend on Greensboro, NC for the Wyndham Championship!
