Great playing and scoring conditions for the week. I will not be favouring any side of the draw however I may well look at those early tee times on Thursday for our First Round Leader bets, but that’s more to do with putting surfaces more than anything else.
Off the Tee – SMASH IT!!! This course presents a huge opportunity for the bombers to open their shoulders and let rip. The course is wide open and the rough some of the least punishing they will see all year. This year they have tried to restrict big hitting a little by the inclusion of a few extra trees but in all honesty I highly doubt this will have much impact. Aggressive style play will offer up easy approach play and far more realistic birdie opportunities.
Approach Play – You have to attack pins and go for it. As proven by Oli Fisher (Mr 59) last year, low scores are available here. Hitting it close makes life so much easier to get on the birdie train and for me its all about proximity to hole with short to mid irons.
Scrambling – Once players get comfortable playing from Bermuda, getting up and down shouldn’t pose too much of a task, hopefully my picks will be hitting more than their fair share of greens anyway so I have paid limited attention to any scrambling stats available.
Putting – Really nice surfaces to putt on and prepared to a speed all should feel used to putting at. Later in the day the surfaces may become a little less reliable but now you can tap down any marks or scuffs caused by the feet of Sergio, holing out and converting those realistic chances shouldn’t be too taxing.
