After an extensive and very much well welcomed break, caused by a couple of majors and some Micky Mouse events. I’m now fully back into the swing of things with my research and write ups for your weekly European Tour, Tour Junkies content.
The BMW International in recent years has alternated between Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof and Golfclub München Eichenried. This year is the turn of where this event was first established, its birthplace, home and most familiar to the golfing fanatic, Golfclub München Eichenried.
Measuring 7,284 yards with a par of 72 and traditional layout including 4 par 5’s. This composite course constructed by the three 9 hole courses situated at this venue will be the challenge ahead for those playing in this very much coveted event.
Designed and presented to suit the modern day game and even described by the clubs website as suitable for the ‘Athletic Golfer.’ This course has all you need for quality tournament golf.
Plenty of water features throughout to create drama. The bunkering is strategically placed to keep the players thinking. The fairways are contoured and shaped not only to create visual appeal but offer up variation when taking aim at the greens. And the greens test the players finesse when on or around them.
With a venue as forward thinking as this and determined to maintain the very highest standards, it comes as no surprise that this year they have laid new putting surfaces throughout, even though what they had before were near on perfect.
Nice and easy one this week.. Humid conditions throughout the week, partially cloudy and the risk of the odd thunderstorm. There would appear to be no benefit in being one side of the draw or the other. So use free will this week and pick the players that you fancy.
Par Breakers – As with any DraftKings contest, birdies or better are going to pivotal towards success and on this course there are plenty of opportunities for players to convert chances. The 4 par 5’s are very get-able and there are a couple of shorter par 4’s that should present fantastic opportunities.
Bogey Avoidance -This stat is aimed a little more towards overall performance and placing, especially if dabbling in the betting market for your outright winner. The previous winners of this event on this course have managed their game exceptionally well and recorded very few bogey’s over the four days.
Greens in Regulation or Scrambling – Those that have magic in their hands and seem to get up and down from wherever, have tended to fair very well at this venue. Of course I would much prefer to have my players hitting greens and creating realistic chances but keeping bogeys off the card could be massively crucial when looking at lower priced golfers and hopefully ensuring 6 0f 6 DraftKings line-ups when heading into the weekend.
Ignoring the big ones like the Rolex Series events, this week we have a considerably stronger field.
Martin Kaymer will be the main attraction this week as he competes in front of home fans. Alongside him we have another former Masters winner and Ryder Cup legend Sergio Garcia.
Outside of that plenty of superb talent on offer from the likes of Matt Wallace and Thomas Detry who will no doubt be knocking on the door of a Ryder Cup spot for next years showdown at Whistling Straights.
We even have Jhonattan Vegas gracing us with his presence and offering us a little bit of PGA tour talent for what is set to be a fantastic event and perfect way to get back into the action with golf this side of the pond.
