So many years have gone by since this show was played and it is still so good. This was the first performance of Guelah Papyrus as well as Chalkdust Torture, two amazing songs. Kinda crazy to hear something like this, I mean as many times as these two songs have been played since then.

Bonnaroo365 is streaming the whole second set of 8-17-96 from the Clifford Ball in Plattsburg NY. Phish released this show as a 7 DVD box set March 3, 2009, and if you haven’t gotten it yet, you should. For now check out the 1 hour and 17 minute video below.
Here’s a show from ‘88, when they played in Waitsfield, Vermont. This is classic live Phish right here, just going to town. I love hearing older shows like this, especially when the quality is so good.
I would have liked to enjoy some of these early ones, but did not get around till the late 90’s, when the Phish had already matured a bit. By the time I was seeing shows they were playing venues like the Hampton Coliseum, Tweeter Center, and Shoreline Amphitheater.
The whole first set is straight funk, opening with Funky Bitch then Mustang Sally, AC/DC into Possum. They continued with a Jesus Left Chicago, Sneakin Sally, and then Alumni Blues (one of my favorite early tunes). Check out the rest of the setlist!

Its really cool that there are people out there willing to fix up these shows for us and make that part of history available. Many thanks to the people who made this show available!

Here are a few tracks that they released some time back from Big Cypress New Years Eve 1999. Anyone else there? That was like 8 hours of straight music!
